What is an E-1 Treaty Trader Visa?
The E-1 Treaty Trader visa is a non-immigrant visa for nationals of countries that maintain a qualifying treaty of, friendship, commerce and navigation with the United States. It enables traders, executives, managers, and essential employees to live and work in the U.S. to carry out substantial trade between the U.S. and their home country. Trade may include goods, services, banking, technology, tourism, or other recognized exchanges.
Visa Requirements
To qualify for an E-1 visa, you must:
- Be a citizen of a country that has a treaty of commerce and navigation with the U.S.
- Engage in substantial trade between the U.S. and the treaty country.
- Ensure that over 50% of the total trade is between the U.S. and the treaty country.
- Serve as the principal trader or be employed in an executive, managerial, or essential skills capacity.
- Intend to depart the U.S. when your E-1 status ends.
